Rice-rice hull mixture and corn stalk were the most favorable media for mycelial growth of Sclerotium rolfsii Sacc. and Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn. Placing the inoculum together with the seed was the more effective inoculation method in screening cotton for resistance to S. rolfsii and R. solani compared to mixing the inoculum with the soil. Sclerotium rolfsii alone or in combination with R. solani produced higher percent infection than R. solani alone. High inoculum levels yielded a corresponding increase in the number of plants that were infected regardless of the inoculation techniques and the pathogens used. Four- to 16-day-old plants were susceptible to both pathogens inoculated singly. However, when inoculated in combination, plants were infected up to 24 days after planting.
