Analysis of virulence of the rice bacterial blight pathogen (Philippines)
1985
Vera Cruz, C.M. | Mew, T.W.
A total of 490 isolates of Xanthomonas campestris pv. oryzae from rice in the Philippines from 1972-1984 were analyzed for their virulence on bacterial blight differential varieties. A shift in virulence frequency over the years was noted. In the last two years, the percentage of pathogen population with virulence to the Xa4 gene for bacterial blight resistance was 95.3% and 69.7% for 1983 and 1984, respectively. Components of the population with virulence to Xa4 and other genes was also evident. Phenotypically, the bacterial pathogen was homogenous and there is no correlation between virulence and bacteriological properties
