Histological studies on effects of kapok seed meal and kapok seeds on gonads and liver in broilers

The effects of CPFA in kapok seed meal to several aspects of organisms were known. In the chick body growth rate and egg production were decreased. Besides, CPFA caused the enlargement of the liver. In the present studies, effects of CPFA on the gonads and the liver were investigated histologically. The results indicated that CPFA at the levels of 0.11 and 0.32 % in the standard ration, fed to 1 day-old chickens for 8 weeks depressed growth, increased mortality, increased liver weight and decreased gonadal dimensions. In addition, the hemoglobin value and hematocrit were significantly reduced. Histologically, degeneration of live cells, focal necrosis and fibrosis were observed in the liver. In the ovary, stromal connective tissue was increased while the number of developing follicle were decreased as compared with those of the control. In the testis, the increase in interseminiferous tubule connective tissue was observed. Low levels of fish meal in chick ration resulted in increasing the CPFA effects, and these effects appeared to be more violent in the ovary than in the testis
