Magur (Clarius batrachus) fish were subjected to food starvation for a period of 91 days. In order to assess the physico-chemical changes, the starvation period was divided into eight phases of equal durations. At the termination of each phase a number of fishes were taken out randomly and subjected to chemical analysis. The data obtained was analyzed statistically. The rates of variation in the chemical parameters were calculated on a daily basis to allow for a meaningful analysis. It was found that the fishes underwent a progressive daily loss of body weight, moisture, crude, protein nitrogen, non-protein nitrogen and muscle fat contents. Ash and entrail fat contents were also found to decrease at significant rates. A considerable loss of nutrients was, therefore, observed to be due to starvation for three months
