A survey was made in a soybean field of Bangladesh Agricultural University Farm on the occurrence of insect pests in different growth stages of 5 soybean varieties. Two insecticides, namely, metathion 50 EC and nexagon 80 EC were tested to evaluate their efficacy against Nezara viridula. 15 species of insects were encountered in the soybean crop among which bean bug (Coptosoma cribarium), leaf roller (Laprosema indica's) hooded hopper (Talingana curiuspina), negro bug (Bracyptalys pacificus) and epilachna beetle (Epilachna 12-punctata) were abundant pests and caused serious damage. Among the varieties, C-6 Malay, Acadian and K-16 were most susceptible to different insect pests compared to C-N-S and K-30 varieties. Metathion was more toxic than nexagon and seemed to be effective at 0.02% a.i. for the control of N. viridula
