Estimate of genetic parameters correlations and path-coefficients of some quantitative characters in mustard (Brassica juncea L.) and rapeseed (B. campestris L.)

Genetic parameters, correlations and path-coefficients were studied for plant height (PH), primary branch/plant (PB), secondary branch/plant (SB), pod/plant (PN), seed/pod (SP) and yield/plant (YP) from 65 strains of mustard (B. juncea) and rapessed (B. campestris). Genotypic and phenotypic and variations were high for PH and PN. Heritability ranged from 19.01% in SB to 63.00% in PH. The maximum genetic advance (% of mean) was noted in YP followed by PH. Seed yield was found to be positively and significantly correlated with all the five character at phenotypic level while at genotypic level YP showed significantly negative correlations with all the characters except PH. The indirect effects of other three characters were also maximum through PN and SP. In the light of the present findings selection with greater emphasis on PN and SP was suggested in mustard and rapeseed.
