Causes for variation in yield levels of groundnut

Field experiments conducted on sandy clay loam soils of Tirupati for two summer seasons (1979 and 1980) to study the effect of irrigation, plant population and fertilization on Spanish groundnut revealed differences in yield between two years. Comparatively cooler weather in 1980 resulted in higher pod yield and lower haulm yield than in 1979. Less number of sunshine hours per day in 1980 resulted in relatively taller plants and favoured better fruit development. The effect of favourable weather conditions in 1980 was more pronounced on those treatments where pod yields were low
