Effect of helminthiasis on the total and differential leucocyte count in chicken blood

The total and differential (relative and absolute) leucocyte counts were made in healthy (uninfected and helminthic infected (natural infection) cockerels and pullets of 3-4 months age. The results obtained suggest that in healthy birds, the pullets have higher number of lymphocytes, morocytes, basophils and eosinophils than cockerels whereas heterophils are more numerous in cockerels than in pullets. In the infected fowls, of both sexes, helminthiasis resulted in either leucocytosis or lecopenia
