Sanitation and use of resistant varieties are the two main means of control of tobacco mosaic viruses in tobacco. Since it is a contagious disease, tobacco should not be grown in the infected fields for at least 2 years. Workers while working in seedbeds or field should not be allowed to use tobacco in any form. Spraying the plants with milk before transplanting is suggested. It is further suggested to spray tannic acid 0.1% on 30th, 40th and 50th day after sowing or transplanting and leaf extracts of Basella alba Bouganvillaea Spectabilis or Azadirachta indica 1:100 dilution 3-4 times at 10 days interval commencing one month after sowing or transplanting tobacco to check further spread of the disease
