Biological and toxicological studies on saw-toothed grain beetle Oryzaephilus surinamensis (l.) (Cucujidae: Coleoptera) and the effect of some synergisms on persistance of insecticides (in Iraq)

Due to the economic importance of this pest to stored grain, this work was conducted to include: 1) Biological studies: the total number of eggs laid and the percentage of eggs hatched were found to be different according to the constant temperatures used and under laboratory conditions as follows: 29.4, 60% at 25 deg. C; 265.25, 90% at 30 deg. C; 47.7, 65% at 35 deg C and 212.72, 85% under laboratory conditions, respectively. Sex ratios were 1:1.32 at 30 deg. C, 1:1.2 at 35 deg C and 1:1.45 under laboratory conditions (male to female) 2) Toxicological studies: best results of killing were obtained after 1,60 days. The two additive compounds appear to prolong the effect of all insecticides. Actellic and Sumithion gave high killing at 30 deg. C and low killing at 20 deg. C while Dicesgive had the opposite effect. 3. Germination studies: seed germination in all treatments was more than 90%. The percentage of abnormal seeding was very low
