The performance of corn cultivars as influenced by corn borer control strategies and weed management schemes [Philippines]
1985
Mallorca, R.C.
Among the four corn cultivars tested, Improved Tiniguib had the tallest height, more kernel rows per ear and higher count of grain per ear. IPB Var 1 registered a significantly higher grain stalk ratio but appeared comparable to Cargill 711 but the latter had larger ear. As to corn borer control strategies, taller plants were observed from those subjected to sevin application (1 kg a.i./ha at 35 DAP + detasseling at 60 DAP). However, percent active infestation, and percent stemborer hole per ear were insignificantly influenced by different corn borer control strategies and considerably produced comparable grain yield. On the other hand, weed management schemes revealed a significantly higher grain yield (t/ha) of corn cultivars in plots subjected to handweeding at 2,4,6 and 8 weeks after planting (WAP) inspite of percentage of active infestation and corn borer holes
