Influence of sampling position and growth rate on the wood properties of Benguet pine (Pinus kesiya Royle ex Gordon)

Variation in growth rate and wood properties were studied on discs taken at breast height from randomly selected 15 Pinus kesiya trees growing in a BFD plantation in Bukod, Benguet. Growth rate (expressed in terms of ring width) did not significantly affect most of the wood features studied, except for tracheid length and extractive content which exhibited negative correlation. Strong effects of ring number from the pith to the bark on most of the wood features were likewise noted. A systematic pattern of variation appeared to exist based on the pooled data
