Irrigation studies on different methods of planting tobacco

Results show that high irrigation levels (6 L/plt) consistently produced taller plants, larger leaves, higher yields, lower specific leaf weight and grade index compared to those given 3 L/plt per irrigation. Methods of planting also affected growth, yield and quality. Ridge planting produced the shortest plants, smallest leaves and lowest yield. Furthermore, highest mortality rate was obtained from narrow ridge planting. On the other hand, the best root development was observed on broad ridge planting. Highest yield (2.53 and 1.76 t/ha) was obtained from furrow with and without hilling-up under lowland and upland conditions, respectively
