Epidemiology of animal schistosomiasis in the Philippines

This study showed that carabaos, pigs and dogs do not harbour Schistosoma japonicum but manifest clinical signs of the disease resulting in death. However, as shown in the relative transmission index it could be concluded that domestic animals play a minor role in the overall transmission of Schistosoma infection to man as compared to that of the field rats
