Observations on the effect of kulitis (Amaranthus viridis) at varying levels of dietary nitrate in goats
1984
Rivera, M.A.A.
Based on the result of the study rations containing high levels of kulitis (Amaranthus viridis) caused adverse effects on the well being of goats. This finding was reflected in the clinical signs, and gross and histopathological lesions. Clinical signs were in the form of inappetence, weakness, cyanosis of the mucous membranes, depth of respiration, diarrhea and frequent urination. The total nitrate content showed alarming nitrate concentration enough to cause metabolic disturbance in goats. It was observed that not all animals showed outward signs of nitrite intoxication
