Performance evaluation of the low pressure mini-jet irrigation system for tobacco
1985
Bagaoisan, L.D.
The LPMJ (Low Pressure Mini-Jet irrigation system) without hilling-up performed more efficiently (62%) in terms of water application than with hilling-up (52%) and hill to hill + furrow irrigation (54%). No hilling-up of the soil favors further the low pressure mini-jet irrigation system by 84% to apply water more uniformly along the plant rows over the existing one (68%) or with hilling-up (66%). Shorter application time (144.92 hr/ha) was registered by LPMJ under both condition (with hilling-up and without hilling-up) due to a smaller volume of water applied per hectare. A savings of 37.7% on fuel input was gained in adopting the new system. No significant difference was noted on plant height, cured yield and crop value. However, hilling-up employed in the low pressure mini-jet gave a quality index (4.98) as high as the present system (5.18). A relatively lower leaf quality (4.24) was noted under the low pressure mini-jet without hilling-up
