Three rates of nitrogen, 0, 8, 16 kg./rai of N, were applied as follows: 6. full rate at planting, 6. full rate at the thinning stage, 6.2/3N at planting + 1/3N at the thinning stage, 6.2/3N at the thinning stage +1/3N one month after thinning. Phosphate and potash at 16 kg./rai of P205 and K20 were applied once at planting. Nitrogen at 8. kg/rai of N was sufficient for kenaf to produce a higher fiber yield, 517 kg./rai compared to 430 and 518 kg./rai obtained from the other two nitrogen rates, and the nitrogen fertilizer should be applied at full rate either at planting or at the thinning stage. The resulting yields were 520 and 409 kg./rai respectively.
