Effect of Furadan (Carbofuran) on seed-crop of jute

An experiment on the effect of Furadan 5G (=Carbofuran), a nematicide, on the yield and quality of jute-seed as appeared to be promising in a field trial, carried out in a plot of CJR Farm, Jagir, having infestation with root-knot nematodes. Seed crop of var D-154 (capsularis) was raised from cuttings, transplanted seedlings and seed in four replicated plots in two series. Plots of one series was applied with Furadan 5G in between the lines a 3 kg a.i./ha the time of planting or sowing. No Furadan was used in the other series. About 83% more seed yield was obtained from crop raised from seed where the chemical was applied. Seeds of treated plots showed more viability and germination capacity than the corresponding untreated source.
