Vegetative growth, bulb size, number of cloves and yield of garlic decreased as the planting was delayed. The reduction in yield was about 33 and 80% when the date of planting was shifted from October 23 to December 3 and January 1, respectively. Treatment of mother bulbs at 6 C for 50 days before planting increased the size of bulb and yield of garlic when the planting was delayed. The low-temperature-treated bulbs planted on January 1 yielded 4.89 t/ha compared to the yield of 1.47 t/ha obtained from the untreated control bulbs planted on the same date
