Absorption of K+,Na+ and Cl-in jute (Corchorus capsularis and Corchorus olitorius) seedlings: occurrence of system II of dual mechanism of ion transport [in Bangladesh]

Accumulation of K+,Na+ and cl- in the root and shoot of jute cultivars increased with the increase in concentration of K+,Na+ and Cl- in the external medium from 0.5 to 25 mM. The uptake of K+,Na+ and Cl- reached a maximum value at the concentration of 50 mM. Net influx of K+,Na+ and Cl- increased with the increase in activities of these ions in the external medium without any significant effect on transport index. The absorption of K+,Na+ and Cl- appears to follow system II of the dual mechanism of ion transport
