In this paper we deal with the evolution of different physical characteristics (equatorial and longitudinal diameters, fruit shape index, theoretical surface area and volume, ratio of theoretical surface area to volume, weight, actual volume and density) during the growth and development of lemon fruits (Citrus limon L. Burm. f.), Verna variety, on both the main crop ("Cosecha") and the late blossoming crop ("Rodrejo") grafted on sour orange (Citrus aurantium L.) grown in Murcia, a characteristic area of citrus production in the South East of Spain. The analysis of the results obtained for the different physical parameters examined makes it possible to distinguish two distinct stages in the evolution of fruits from the main Verna crop ("Cosecha"), and also to define the critical temporal interval that marks the limit between both stages. In addition, an approximate time for the onset of the final evolutionary period for the two types of lemon is established
