Heterodera avenae (Wollen-weber) causes a considerable loss to yield of bread-wheat (Triticum aestivum Linn.) 'Mexicali 75', 'HD 4579', 'Raj 1556', 'PBW 34', and 'DWL 5023' varieties of macaroni wheat along with 1 susceptible variety 'WL 711' of bread-wheat were tested for their response to H. avenae in the glass-houses. Two 10-day-old plants/pot in triplicate of each variety were inoculated with 15 cysts, containing on an average 250 eggs and larvae/cyst. Five months after inoculation, the number of newly formed cysts was observed under the stereoscopic binocular microscope, after recovering the same from the soil and roots with the help of 60-mesh sieve. 'PBW 34', 'Raj 1556', 'DWL 5023' and 'HD4579' were found to be as susceptible as 'WL 711'. The number of cysts supported by these varieties ranged from 57 and 110. However, 'Mexicali 75' was susceptible to a less extent and 18.3 cysts were developed compared with 80.6 cysts on 'WL 711'
