Problems, actions and programmes for improvement of citrus in Jamaica through phytosanitation
1986
Bent, C.V.
Since the 1980's the citrus industry in Jamaica is being revived and expanded with emphasis on the export of fresh and juicing fruit to the USA market. New groves are being planted and more than 6,000 acres of groves resuscitated with the help of external funding. New phytosanitation programmes are being implemented with respect to nursery hygiene, careful site selection, fiddler beetle and slug control, disease control, phytosanitary certification of citrus for export, particularly to meet the stringent U.S.D.A. regulations and post harvest disease control in the packing house
