In a field trial carried out at MARDI Station, Jalan Kebun, Kelang, Peninsular Malaysia in 1984, five fungicides (metalaxyl-mancozeb, triforine, carbendazim, cyperal and diathionon-copper) and two spore germination-suppressing agents (Abion M and Abion C) were tested for their effectiveness in controlling cucumber downy mildew. Metalaxyl-mancozeb gave very good control of the disease, followed next in order of effectiveness by cyperal. None of the chemicals tested caused any visible phytotoxic symptoms or had any effect on the pattern of flowering and fruit set. Fruit number and weight were, however, reduced in the treatment using a combination of Abion M and Abion C
