Since copper deficiency is common in Polish soils there is an urgent need to develop a workable method for the prediction of copper fertilization needs. Currently available methods for the determination of soil copper were discussed. The effect of soil factors on copper availability was found to be modified by plant species, organic matter content being the major factor for wheat, and clay content - for sugar beets
