Some indices of nitrate metabolism in lettuce grown by the nutrient film technique on varying nutrient solutions

Nitrate content in lettuce depended on the type of the nutrient solution and on cultivar and varied greatly from 4.25 to 34.5 mg NO3/g exp (-1) of dry matter. Nitrate reductase activity was lower at the highest (100% and 75%) and lowest (23.3% and 26.9%) participation of N-NO3. The highest nitrate concentrations were noticed when fertilization was carried out using the nutrient solution with the highest share of reduced form of nitrogen
