Powdery mildew was caused by fungi in Family Erysiphaceae. Homma (1937) classified powdery mildews fungi by telemorphs into 3 subfamilies as Erysipheae phyllactineae and leveilluleae, using ectoparasitism level on hosts. At genus level, the fungi were classified by type of mycelium on host, type of appendages, number of asci in cleistothecium. The classification by anamorphs, Homma (1937) separated this fungus into 3 genera as Oidium, Ovulariopsis and Oidiopsis by type of mycelium, branching of conidiophore type and conidia. Bosewinkel (1977, 1980) proposed the system using asexual characteristics of powdery mildews. The classification was based on mycelium, appressoria, fibrosin bodies, haustoria, conidia produced single or in chains, sizes of conidia, conidial shape, germination of conidia, basal septum of conidiophores, shape of conidiophore cells, length and width of conidiophore cells. This sytem seemed to be useful in classification of powdery mildew fungi in Thailand, because we found only the perfect stages of this fungus on mulberry that were classified as Phyllactinia corylea and P. moricola. Thailand had reported powdery mildews on 59 plants. On some plants, more than one kind of fungi were found: i.e. castor bean, pepper, mung bean, mulberry, parsley, garden pea, was gourd, and sesame
