Investigation of disease of pine sawfly (Diprion pini L.) shows that it is caused by microorganisms similar, by properties, to rickettsiae. At the same time it also has some characteristics of polyhedral virus disease because by the end of its development exciter of the disease is concentrated and surrounded with polyhedron-shaped proteinaceous mass. The polyhedrons are formed in cells by the end of development of the parasite when polyhedral inclusions are found in infested cells in which numerous bacterial forms have been noticed at first. The investigated disease attacks several internal organs of D. pini caterpillars. The disease starts in the nucleus of the attacked cell, then infesting cytoplasm as well. The infested cells decay and in the advanced stage of the disease the infested tissue is completely disorganized, having numerous polyhedral inclusions.
