The plasticization of Euramerican poplar wood (Populus X Euramericana clone I-214) with 10% ammonia solution

Plasticization of poplar wood with 10% ammonia solution causes the reduction in percentage of lignin, the growth of contents of cellulose, nitrogen and hard-hydrolysed polysaccharides, while the content of mineral substances and easy-hydrolysed polysaccharides has not been changed. It is concluded that disregarding the reduction of lignin (by the investigated plasticization) with no changes on hemicelluloses, the reduction is not sufficient to cause the total plasticization and improvement of physical-mechanical features of a plasticized wood.
