An experiment was carried out at Central Research Farm, BARI Joydebpur, Gazipur during rabi 1984-85 to determine the optimum time of sowing and seed rate of lentil (Var. Pabna local) with three dates of sowing namely Nov 5, 25 and Dec 15 and three seed rates namely 20,30 and 40 kg/ha. The grain yield was significantly influenced by different dates of sowing. Highest grain yield (1.67 t/ha) was obtained with December 15 sowing. Grain yield was not affected significantly by the different seed rates. Even higher (20 kg/ha) seed rate failed to improve yield when sowing was delayed beyond November 5. The results thus indicate the importance of timely sowing of lentil for optimum yield. The optimum time of sowing for lentil (Var. Pabna local) is November 5 at a seeding rate of 20 kg/ha.
