The effect of four food plants i.e. Jute-Corchorus capsularis, sunflower-Helianthus annuus, shefali-Nyctanthes arbortristis, and kakrol-Momordica cochinchinensis, on the larval and pupal development of the jute hairy caterpillar, Diacrisia obliqua Walker was determined. On the basis of survival percentage of the larvae, body dimensions, weight, growth index value and percent emergence of adults, sunflower leaves found to be most preferred food. Kakrol leaves failed to support the larval development beyond the 4th larval instar. The tested food plants could be arranged in order-sunflower, jute and shefali.
