Nine crossing parents and six crosses were studied to analyse the genetic variation of protein percentage and the relationship between parents and F2. It was found that not all crosses took a normal distribution pattern in respect of protein percentage and additive gene effect was the main gene effect for protein content. An extensive variability and popular transgressiveness were observed. In F2 generation, this trait showed a high heritability, hence an excellent selection could be achieved. Significant positive correlations existed between MP and F2 mean values. With the similar parents and MP, those crosses having higher D. G. V. performed more extensive variability.
