The effect of four fungicides, Brestan, Captan, Dithane M45 and Kocide 101 on four isolates of phytophthora palmivora from Sierra Leone, were evaluated. There was a marked variation between the effective concentrations of various fungicides which suppressed growth, sporangial production, and sporangial and zoospore germination. Brestan was the most effective fungicide at low concentrations in causing complete inhibition of growth, asexual reproduction and germination of sporangia. Captan was more effective than Brestan in suppressing zoospore germination
