The author gives a survey of the use of modern NE- (net energy) system instead of the earlier used starch equivalent calculation in the feeding of sheep. It was stated that the compound of the rations for sheep, based on the new energy evaluation system is not more complicated than the use of the earlier calculation method. It has the advantage that the daily weight gain of the young animals could be predicted on the basis of the energy content of the ration.
