Genetic variability, correlation studies and their implication in selection of high yielding genotypes of chickpea

Genetic parameters of variability were calculated for yield and its components in 117 genotypes of chickpea. Heritability estimates were high for all the characters. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance expressed as percentage of mean were observed for number of secondary branches/plant, number of pods/plant, seed yield/plant, biological yield/plant and harvest index. Association analysis revealed that grain yield had positive association with plant spread, number of primary branches/plant, number of secondary branches/plant, pod bearing length, number of pods/plant, biological yield/plant and harvest index
