Chemical effecting development of watercore in apple fruit

In this study two apple varieties Jonathan susceptible and Golden delicious resistant to watercore were investigated. Application of sorbitol or glucose increased disease severity 10 or 26% on thinned fruits and 8 or 29% on unthinned fruits respectively. On the contrary, addition of CaCl2 to these compounds reduced the disease severity 50-60%. This reduction for application of CaCl2 was 60-65%
