Effect of artificial lodging time on yield and quality of naked barley and malting barley

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of lodging time on yield and quality of barley. Artificial lodging treatments on a naked barley, "Saessalbori" were made 7 times at 5 days interval from heading to 30 days after heading and artifical lodging treatments on a malting barley, "Sacheon 6", were also made 8 times at 5 days interval from heading to 35 days after heading. 1,000 grain weight and germination rate were the lowest at the lodging on 5 days to 10 days after heading, and grain less than 2.0mm in diameter and was increased at lodging on 10 days to 15 days after heading. The most remarkable reduction of grain yield up to 39 to 59% was occurred at lodging during 10 to 15 days after heading to increase in grain less than 2.0mm in diameter and decrease in 1,000 grain weight. The pearling rate, whiteness, ash and protein content were affected largely by lodging, while amylose content, water absorption and expansibility were not affected by lodging
