The residual effect of Rhizobium japonicum inoculated to soybean on a normal upland soil

R. japonicum strains selected recently were inoculated to a normal fertile upland soil and the cultivar of soybean "Dangyeongkong" was cultivated for 2 years. The grain yield of soybean were 6-7% increased by the inoculation but the yield differences between the plots of 40kg/ha of nitrogen and without N. were not clear. The residual effect of rhizobium inoculation in the 2nd year of soybean yield was observed by increasing the yield components such as number of pods per plant, grain weights per plant, 100 grain weights etc. The inoculation of rhizobium strains caused to increase the dry weight of soybean plant, the number of nodules, the activity of nitrogenase, especially the specific activity of nitrogenase in the strain of R 214 at flowering stage, but the growth of soybean plant and the nitrogenase activities between nitrogen levels applied was not significantly different from each other. The changes of soil properties after experiment were not clear but in the inoculated plot with free nitrogen fertilization were apt to be slightly higher in soil pH and the content of T-N
