Farm management and time allocation of farm record-keeping cooperators in Iloilo [Philippines]: a household approach

Labor utilization varies by activity and largely depends on the performance of a specific task, availability of family and hired labor supply and respective attitudes, beliefs and preferences. Farm activities were usually done by the male household members at an average of 93 days or 32 percent of the total available number of days in a year. The sons averaged 87 working days on farm activities (27 percent), and 46 days (15 percent) on household activities, and 13 days (4 percent) on backyard activities. The major activities of the wives were housekeeping and taking care of the children. The wives averaged 182 days for household activities which was 54 percent of the total productive time. The daughters reported the highest hours spent in attending school and training which averaged 84 mandays (29 percent) of the total productive time. Findings also showed that female and male members who reached college garnered the highest income, however, the husbands were the highest household income earners.
