Residual effect of applied organic fertilizer on a corn-corn rotation [Philippines]

The results disclosed favorable residual effects of the different organic fertilizers as indicated by the significant increase on the length of corn ear and the economic yield of the plant. The increase in the yield of corn over the control due to application of rice straw, ipil-ipil and chicken manure were 90.45, 150.08 and 41.66 percent, respectively. Another remarkable indication of the favorable residual effects of applied organic fertilizers was the comparable results during the 1984 and the 1985 cropping in terms of length of corn ear, diameter of corn ear and yield. On the other hand, no residual effect was observed on the applied inorganic fertilizer as shown by the comparable yield of plants applied with inorganic and the unfertilized plants (control).
