Changes in the herb layer biomass of the mixed oak-pine forest (Pino-Quercetum) in the Niepolomice Forest area effected by mineral fertilization with NPK and dolomite

On the basis of the six-year studies it was stated that grasses increased their total biomass in response to NPK fertilizer by 350 percent. The root growth caused the greatest increase of grass biomass. "Other" species increased their biomass in response to NPK fertilizers by 152 percent on the average. An increase of the biomass of "other " species interacted with the progressive thinnings of the crowns of the trees observed during the studies. The application of NPK fertilizers had an unfavourable effect on the dominant species - Vaccinium myrtillus and mosses. Trientalis europaea was a species indifferent to NPK fertilizers.
