The effect of sett size, sett type and spacing on some aspects of growth, development and yield in white Lisbon yams (Dioscorea alata L.)

Tuber yield increased with increasing sett size for middle setts but not head setts, due to an increase in tuber size not tuber number. There was a higher per plant yield at wide spacing due to increase in both tuber size and number. Lower seed rates are required for heads compared to middles. The biological optimum seed rate of middle setts was 4,500kg/ha whereas that of head setts was 1,525kg/ha
