During the four-year period the effect of irrigation of the hop crop in the conditions of Pelagonija in Macedonia (Yugoslavia) was investigated. The paper provides a description of climate and soil conditions first, and then the determined limit values of the soil moisture, water balance, phytothermic coefficient, soil moisture dynamics, effect of various limit values of the soil moisture upon yield, quality and some biological characteristics of the crop (phenophase, growth and transpiration intensity, mass and position of the root system). This paper also provides a description of economic justifiability of irrigation.
