Selection indices for some morphophysiological characters in groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) [in Bangladesh]

Selection indices were constructed for some morpho -physiological characters related to pod yield in groundnut. Highest relative efficiency over straight selection for pod yield was observed when all the characters were included in the index formula and it offered 126.04, 111.90, 105.08, 103.92 and 100.68 percent relative efficiency than the best single variable (100 pod weight), two variables (100 pod weight and harvest index), three variables (100 pod weight, primary branches per plant and harvest index) four variables (100 pod weight, primary branches per plant, pods per plant and harvest index) and five variables (pod yield per plant, primary branches per plant, pods per plant, 100 pod weight and harvest index) indices respectively.
