A study of the profitability of the SOCAPALM village plantations in Esseka sub-division [Cameroon]
1989
Mboua, J.C.
SOCAPALM created the "Small Holder" project to promote palm oil production in Cameroon using peasant farmers. Analysis of this project shows that it's more profitable to the farmers than their cocoa farms with or without the compensation given to oil farmers by SOCAPALM as incentive. Farmers who processed and sold their oil were noticed to make more profit when compared to those who directly sold their palm bunches to SOCAPALM. It was also shown that the project provides regular income to the farmers. Some weaknesses identified include the irregular collection of palm bunches and the non constant supply of fertilizers to farmers which tend to hamper the smooth functioning of the project
