In order to develop hybrid sorghum varieties being productive in both grain and sugar, authors made the research on the inheritance of sugar content in sorghum stalk by crosses between sweet sorghum and normal grain sorghum. Results reveal that sugar content in stalk is a quantitative character determined by polygenes; the genes controlling lower sugar content appear partial dominant, and heritability of sugar content is not high. Statistical analysis shows that the correlation between sugar content and weight per 1000 grains is significantly negative, therefore, the plants possessing both high sugar content and grain yield could be selected only in larger population of progeny.
