Effect of land use period on development of sandy soils of south Tahrir province, Egypt

The study provides a basis for identifying important trends in soil development with time and future research needs. The trends shown in this study cast some doubt to whether soil has reached a steady-state with their environment. Therefore, most of the soil properties continued to change when putting a new soil for cultivation. From the data obtained, it is clear that: a) the increase of the period of land use causes increase of silt+clay content in the upper layers and increases organic matter accumulation; this is due to the fact that the cation exchange capacity is increasing, b) the ECe values and CaCO3 content decrease due to the removal of the intial salts and CaCO3 from the soil, c) the change of pedogensis from granular to intertextic and agglomeroplasmic fabric due to the increase of plasma d) the plasmic fabric is changed from crystic to vosepic plasmic fabric e) appearance of new formations as cutanic organo-argillans and ferrans); accordingly the microstructure is developed from basic structure to primary structure.
