Effect of Cycocel on the biochemical constituents of tomato plants under the different levels of sodium chloride [Egypt]

Sand culture was conducted to study the effect of cycocel (chloro choline chloride) on the biochemical constituents (chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, total carotenoids, carbohydrate fractions, nitrogen fractions and the activity of some enzymes) in tomato plants (under different levels) of NaCl salinity. Also, vitamin C content, total soluble solids and acidity in the fruits produced under the conditions were studied. The effect of the different treatments on the yield of fruits was recorded. Salinity has a decreasing effect on the yield number of fruits per plant, fruit weight and also the dry weight of plant. Cycocel decreased the above harmful effect of salinity and improved the salt tolerance effect. The activity of catalase, amylase, peroxidase and invertase enzymes were increased as the salinity levels increased. When cycocel was used under salinization a high activity resulted increasing of the reducing sugars and soluble carbohydrates but decreasing the non-reducing and total carbohydrates. Cycocel treatments under salinization increased the phosphorus, potassium and sodium contents in the plants. Also, cycocel caused a higher content of total sugars, total soluble salides, vitamin C while it decreased total acidity under the salinity levels.
