The effect of gibberellic acid on growth, oxalic acid and mineral contents of spinach plants [Egypt]

Pot experiments were carried out to study the influence of soaking and foliar spray with gibberellic acid (GA3) on stem length, leaf area, fresh and dry weight, oxalic acid and mineral contents of spinach plants. GA3 was applied at 0.10,50 and 100 ppm and sprayed 30 and 50 days after sowing. After 60 days from sowing GA3 at 50 ppm increased plant height, leaf area, dry weigth and Ca content. GA (soaking or spraying) inhibited the accumulation of Zn and Mn in spinach leaves. However, GA3 promoted the accumulation of K in the leaves sprayed with 50 ppm. In soaking treatments at 50 and 100 ppm, GA3 favoured the accumulation of Fe and oxalic acid in spinach leaves.
