Differential response of barley cultivars to Nitrogen fertilization [Egypt]

Two field experiments were performed, in 1983/84 and 1984/85 growing seasons at the experimental Farm of Faculty of Agriculture, Zagazig University to investigate the differental response of five barley cultivars to different nitrogen levels, namely zero, 20, 40 and 60 kg N/feddan. Design was randomized block with 4 replications. Results showed that Bonus cultivar had significant taller plants, more number of spikes/m, taller spikes and relatively high straw yield ton/fad. as compared to other cultivars. The most superior cultivar in grain yield was CC 89 as it produced greater number of spikes/m compared with Giza 121, CC 163 and 100 Des. The least grain yield was obtained with 100 des. cultivar. Other cultivars showed different behaviour regarding most characters studied herein.
